A New Chapter for Rehabilitation in Uganda
In partnership with our donors and the Nkolo Orthopedics Rehabilitation Center, SwissABILITY has officially broken ground on the construction of a new rehabilitation centre in Uganda.
For years, Nkolo Orthopedics has operated from a small rented space that could no longer accommodate the growing needs of patients and staff. This project marks the beginning of a transformative journey, one that will provide accessible, sustainable, and professional rehabilitation services for people living with disabilities.
What the Project Will Deliver
Over the next three years, the site will be developed into a comprehensive rehabilitation facility, featuring:
- A fully equipped rehabilitation centre with modern machines.
- Sustainable infrastructure, including a water source and solar energy supply.
- Accommodation facilities for both patients (short-term) and staff (long-term).
- A mobile clinic to reach surrounding communities in need.

Focus for 2025
The immediate priority is the construction of the rehabilitation centre building. This will form the foundation of a long-term vision to strengthen Uganda’s rehabilitation system and bring dignity, independence, and care to hundreds of people each year.
Looking Ahead
This milestone represents more than bricks and mortar; it is an investment in human potential. With the support of our partners and donors, we are laying the groundwork for a future where people with disabilities in Uganda can access the care they need close to home.
