Between July 2024 and August 2025, SwissABILITY embarked on a series of prosthetic outreach missions across Uganda, bringing hope and mobility to amputees in some of the country’s most underserved regions.
For many people living with limb loss, access to prosthetic devices is limited by distance, cost, or lack of local services. Through these missions, SwissABILITY worked to change that—providing assessment, fittings, training, and handover, while collaborating with local health teams to ensure follow-up care.
Reaching Every Corner of Uganda
Karamoja (Northern Region) – July 2024
In Karamoja, 14 amputees received prosthetic devices, including 12 Monolimb transtibial prostheses, one transfemoral prosthesis, and one Symes prosthesis.
Kibaale (Western Region) – August 2025
Over eight days in Kibaale, 19 prosthetic legs were fitted for 18 amputees, ranging from modular transtibial to transfemoral and through-knee prostheses.
Bududa (Eastern Region) – July–August 2025
In Bududa, 10 amputees received prosthetic legs, plus one orthoprosthesis, restoring their ability to walk and regain independence.
Bukedea (Teso / Mid-Eastern Region) – February 2025
Finally, in Bukedea, 11 prosthetic legs were fitted for 10 amputees, ensuring that even those in remote areas could benefit from modern mobility devices.
Life-Changing Impact
Across the four missions, 49 amputees gained life-changing prosthetic devices. For each individual, this is more than just a new limb—it’s a chance to walk again, return to work, engage with their community, and live with renewed dignity
The outreach missions also strengthened local orthopedic teams, sharing skills and knowledge that will continue to benefit patients long after the devices are fitted.
These missions are a powerful reminder that mobility is more than movement—it’s independence, confidence, and hope restored.
