Dr. Mubiru Nelson – From Resilience to Rehabilitation
Dr. Mubiru Nelson founded Nkolo Orthopaedics Rehabilitation Center (NORC) out of deep gratitude and a powerful desire to give back. His journey is one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering determination.
In 2009, faced with financial hardship and no school fees, Nelson became a street boy and later worked as a taxi conductor in Kampala just to survive. His turning point came when Fields of Life, a charitable organization, stepped in to sponsor his education a gift made possible through the generosity of Maurice and Ruth Haggai.
This support enabled him to complete a Diploma in Orthopaedics Technology (Prosthetics and Orthotics), changing the course of his life forever.
In 2020, driven by his own experience and a calling to serve others, Dr. Mubiru established NORC a place where people with disabilities could access affordable, high-quality rehabilitation services. What started as one man’s mission has grown into a beacon of hope for countless families across Uganda.
Today, Dr. Mubiru is pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at King Caesar University (KCU). His vision is to expand NORC into a fully-fledged surgical and medical rehabilitation center, reaching even more people living with disabilities and ensuring that no one is left behind.
